IPL is such a big business that BCCI and the team earn crores of rupees from every part of it. From players to clothes, everything has a price.

After America’s National Football League, it is the second richest sports league in the world. The earnings from IPL have made BCCI the richest cricket board in the world. How do the earnings from IPL happen? How much money does BCCI keep with itself, and how much money do the teams get? We will know in today’s explanation. IPL has three parts. Let’s understand it one by one. Central Cabinet accounts for about 60 to 70% of the total earnings of IPL. It has two parts. IPL will be shown only on the channel that has the rights. Till 2017, its rights were with Sony, for which BCCI got 8200 crore rupees. Currently, the broadcasting rights of IPL are with two different companies. In countries like the subcontinent,i.e., India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, and Nepal, the TV rights are with Disney Star. The company paid 23575 crore rupees for it, while Vikram 18 has paid 100 crore rupees for it. Bought its digital streaming rights for 20000-500 crores rupees. The second way is title sponsorship, i.e., adding your name before IPL, like DLF IPL, Vivo IPL, and now Tata IPL. Till now, IPL has received 4598 crores rupees for title sponsorship. After central revenue, the second main part of IPL is advertising and promotion revenue, which has a 20 to 30% share in the total earnings of IPL. Every team has its business model for this, and under this, they make agreements with companies. Companies pay teams for the names and logos of players and umpires, jerseys, helmets, wickets, and companies that appear on the field and boundary line. The team also gets its own and other brands promoted by the players. The T-shirt cup is the last and third main part of IPL. Local land is the place where IPL gets 10% of its total earnings. This includes the earnings from match tickets. By selling tickets for a match, around 4 to 5 crores rupees are earned. Out of this, 80% goes to the home team. Now know how much money does BCCI and the teams earn from IPL? Earlier, BCCI used to keep 20% of the central revenue, i.e., the earnings from broadcasting rights and title sponsorship, and 80% went to the teams, but now this ratio has become 50%. In 2024, BCCI earned a total of Rs 7143 crore from the central revenue of IPL. According to the 50% formula, Rs 3571 crore was received, while the remaining Rs 3571 crore was distributed among 10 teams. If we add all the earnings of the teams, then in the last few years, each team has earned Rs 500 to 600 crore annually. Now, the last question: how much money can BCCI and the teams earn from this season? According to Santosh Aurang, Managing Partner of Dump Advisory, this time the central revenue of IPL is around Rs 10,000 crore. Out of this, BCCI will distribute 50%, i.e. Rs 5000 crore, among 10 teams tomorrow, while each team will earn from 100 to 600 cror.e 200 crore rupees will be earned from sponsorship and ads. in this way, in 2025, the income of every team will be around 600 to 700 crore rupees
